Wes Ball is receiving widespread acclaim for his work on Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, a 2024 American science fiction action film he directed, with a screenplay by Josh Friedman. This film marks the fourth installment in the Planet of the Apes reboot series and the tenth overall in the franchise. The cast includes Owen Teague, Freya Allan, Kevin Durand, Peter Macon, and William H. Macy.
The Planet of the Apes franchise began in 1968 with the Charlton Heston-led classic, which quickly became a cultural phenomenon, leading to four sequels to the original film. The last installment, War for the Planet of the Apes, directed by Matt Reeves, was released in 2017, making this new film a highly anticipated return to the apes’ world.
Discussing the challenges of making the sequel, Ball shared, “I remember watching the original film series a lot as a child with my dad. The movie still holds up. Planet of the Apes was released in 1968, yet it still works. These stories are challenging to make, but I love creating such films.”
Looking ahead, Ball also revealed details about his upcoming projects. He is currently working on Legend of Zelda, a film based on the iconic action-adventure game franchise created by Japanese game designers Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka.
