Mad Max Fury Road star Charlize Theron delivers verdict on Furiosa
Charlize Theron has shared her thoughts on “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” the new prequel to 2013’s “Mad Max: Fury Road.”
“Furiosa” explores the backstory of Theron’s character, Imperator Furiosa, from “Fury Road.” In this film, Anya Taylor-Joy from “The Menu” takes on the role originally played by Theron.
While “Fury Road” is celebrated as one of the greatest action films ever, its production was challenging, and Theron’s conflicts with co-star Tom Hardy are well-known.
When asked if she had spent time with her successor, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlize Theron responded, “No. We’ve really been trying to connect. It’s been one of those situations where we could actually make a comedy out of it.”
“We keep running into each other in situations where we don’t have time to really talk,” Theron said. “So we’re constantly like, ‘Oh my god, OK, let’s get together!’ And then life takes over. But it will happen when it’s right.”
“Furiosa” received positive reviews from critics, but its underwhelming box office performance has cast doubt on the franchise’s future, despite director George Miller expressing interest in making another prequel, this time centered on Tom Hardy’s Max.
In a five-star review for The Independent, critic Clarisse Loughrey praised the film, stating, “Furiosa is divided into chapters. At various points, we jump forward months or even years, but the storytelling never feels disjointed. There’s always a new chase or fight sequence to keep the audience engaged.”
