Fede Álvarez’s eagerly awaited Alien: Romulus made its public debut on Monday night with a world premiere in Los Angeles, and initial reactions have already started circulating on social media.
As the eighth entry in the iconic Alien series, this film is set between Ridley Scott’s 1979 original and James Cameron’s 1986 sequel, Aliens. Romulus centers on a group of young colonists who discover a deserted space station and come face-to-face with the franchise’s infamous alien creature. The cast includes Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, and Spike Fearn.
The film is produced by Ridley Scott, Michael Pruss, and Walter Hill.
Originally planned for a Hulu release similar to Dan Trachtenberg’s well-received *Prey* (2022), the studio decided to shift *Romulus* to a theatrical release at the start of principal photography. “As soon as we began shooting, the studio said, ‘Forget it, we’re going to theaters with this,’” Álvarez told The Hollywood Reporter in a detailed interview in March.
*Romulus* is set to hit theaters on August 16.
While full reviews for *Romulus* are expected on Wednesday, here’s a look at some of the initial reactions following Monday night’s premiere.
